Raspberry Pi setup notes

This is just to document some setup issues and notes for Raspbian Wheezy:

Upgrade and keep software up to date

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

Configuration

$ sudo raspi-config

Software installations

# install vim
$ sudo apt-get install vim

# install LAMP
$ sudo apt-get install apache2
$ sudo apt-get install mysql-server
$ sudo apt-get install php5

Keyboard Issues & Fixes

I keep having problems initially when press certain characters such as |, ~ does not appear correctly. The fix is to change keyboard locale to US.

1) First, open raspi-config

2) Change default locale to US utf8 (use space for selection)

3) Set keyboard language (select default 104) to language US

4) Restart the Pi

Install wifi drivers for TP-Link TL-WN725N V2

$ sudo install -p -m 644 8188eu.ko /lib/modules/3.6.11+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
$ sudo depmod -a
$ sudo modprobe 8188eu

Afterwards, just open wifi config. To connect to WEP networks, the password is the shared key. For WPA, PSK refers to the wifi password.

Further configuration can be found under /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

Install VNC

$ sudo apt-get install tightvncserver
# start server
$ tightvncserver
